How it works
From signing up to a published edition is five steps. The first issue of a new title takes the most attention; after that it moves quickly.
The five steps
Create an account
Your account is in your own company name. Your titles sit underneath it, and only you see them.
Upload the first PDF
That is how your title comes into being. The tool surveys the layout — columns, drop caps, pull quotes, the state of the text layer — and proposes settings. This costs nothing: no AI is involved.
Run the analysis
Page by page. You watch the progress and see what it cost.
Review and correct
You go through the edition and fix what went wrong. On a new title you leave notes as you go; the tool turns those into rules.
Publish or export
Archive the edition so it appears on the bookshelf, or download the ZIP for your own system.
Why the second issue is faster
The first time round the tool knows nothing about your publication. Where the page footer sits, which words are section labels, how to spot a sidebar, how much space there is between two paragraphs.
Everything you correct and note on the first issue is summarised into rules for that title, which then apply to every following issue. In practice: the first issue is work, the second and third are review, after that it is a browse.
What you need
- The print-ready PDF of the edition, with a text layer in it.
- A browser. Nothing needs installing.
- About half an hour for the first issue of a new title.
